In his presentation, Doug Savage will explore how international frameworks such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and Universal Declaration of Human Rights are being used by the UW-Milwaukee Institute of World Affairs to help K-12 students analyze and engage with global-to-local issues.
Doug Savage is Director of the Institute of World Affairs at UW-Milwaukee, the outreach arm of UWM's Center for International Education. Prior to joining UWM, he held positions in Middle East-focused NGO's based in Chicago and Washington, D.C. He oversees IWA’s media initiatives and coordinates the annual Fireside Forum lecture series.
He also represents the IWA at the World Affairs Councils of America based in Washington. Previously, he served as Assistant Director of the Institute for Global Studies, a UW System faculty and curriculum development office. He was Midwest Regional Director of the National US-Arab Chamber of Commerce. He holds a Master’s Degree in Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Chicago, and has done graduate study at Yarmouk University in Jordan.
